Overview

When I was brought in, SelectHealth was starting to rethink how they wanted to structure their Member Portal. Keeping the user in mind, they settled on a more educational approach.

Keeping the user educated on keywords, FAQs, and other various sections of their portal was a crucial part of the redesign. With this in mind each page of the portal had an information portion to it.

This included tooltips, descriptions, and FAQs.

Research

At the time I was brought in, the research phase was completed. Upon finishing the designs and even during, there were multiple rounds of user testing for best interactions with users.

This included ID card navigation, map navigation, and more.

Design

Well… This is where the magic happens! After getting briefed on the research and design direction SH wanted to go, we started getting to work.

Along the road, there were many obstacles. As I encountered them, I used my design skills to best make adjustments as I thought would fit best for the goals of SelectHealth and also the best user experience.

After butting heads with business and upper management (the usual…) we settled on a direction we were all happy with.

The Results

After months of research, designing, and testing… The project was put to development! Mobile/Desktop web wrapped up first then we shifted into the Native mobile app.

This provided a new set of challenges but nothing we couldn’t handle. Keeping IOS and Android gestures and layouts in mind, we created an awesome new experience more SelectHealth members.

What I learned…

In the end, there were many takeaways from this project. I learned new skills such as agile development, being flexible but assertive with the business side, and also how to be a leader.

Taking the lead on Mobile was a big step for me. It tought me to ask questions and to never feel like you are alone. Design is about collaboration, and that is something I will take with me for every future project to come.
